Simon is a Sable resident, born and bred. His Talent manifested when he was
twelve, and from that point onwards he never had any doubts that he would become
a mage. His
arcane skills and abilities are well above the average, and as a theoretical
mage he is better. His specialisation is as a defensive and transport mage, but
he has also written a number of papers about the Talent in general, the increase
in the number of conjurers, and the future of the magical arts. Nowadays,
however, he does not teach as much as he did, concentrating more on the
administration of the College. He is married to Kate, and together they were trusted enough by the King to bring up his grandson, Dominic, before the latter was welcomed back into the Royal family by his father. A close relationship endures between the Prince and his foster parents. |

Peggy is the sister of Celia Wallis, who instead of applying her skills directly to the military, decided to extensively study combat and defensive magic, for which she discovered early that she had a flair. Within the two groupings, her speciality tends specifically towards the combat side of things, although her knowledge of defensive areas is still very good. She is a strict teacher, who doesn't take any nonsense from her class, however the results she gets are usually very good.
She is a small woman, only about 5'4", with brown hair and green eyes, and bears a resemblance to her sister, although she does not have the same commanding bearing except when in class.
Jackson is an American from Chicago on Terra Magica, who spent a year doing exchange teaching at King's Cambridge a couple of years before moving to Sable. His speciality is directed more towards defensive magic, although as with Peggy in the reverse, his crossover knowledge to combat magic is excellent. He is soft spoken, and tends towards the laconic out of class, however as a teacher he is firm and fair.
Jackson is an Afro-Caribbean in his late fifties, his short hair peppered with silver. He still retains a mid-west American accent.
O'Connor is probably the foremost expert in combat magic in the Kingdom, and also has a familiarity with defensive magics. Given his duties elsewhere, he is not a full-time lecturer at either SMC or SCMM, but since he stepped down as active Commander in Chief of the Sable forces, he has found more time to teach. He makes himself available should any particularly gifted students in matters military become known to the full-time combat and defensive teachers when he is in Sable to take an interest.
Richard was born on Terra Magica and discovered he was Talented when he was fourteen, when trying to stop himself breaking his neck when he slipped while walking beside a quarry in Worcestershire. Until then, however, he had always wanted to be a doctor. He went through King's London, and got interested in healing magics, and later went back to Imperial College to take a full degree in non-arcane medicine - rather than the semi-course expected in mage school. He is another ex-mage surgeon, this time from the Cromwell Hospital, and met Robert and Claire at various medical gatherings in London. His wife died in 2011, and he was rather at a loose end for the next couple of years, until Robert invited him to come to Sable. As well as being one of the senior consultants in the Royal Hospital in Sable City (along with Claire, Malcolm Carlisle, Michael de Lacy, and even the King on occasion), he is the Head of the Faculty of Healing Magics within Sable Mage College.
Richard is in his mid-forties, with salt and pepper grey/brown hair and brown eyes. He seems a slightly sad man, but is an interesting if old fashioned teacher, and a brilliant physician.
Originally from the Western continent of Magica Superior, Gabriel is the foremost expert in Sable, bar the King, on mental magics: a highly detailed sub-specialism of healing magic. His abilities include the magical equivalents of psychiatry and also, effectively, brain surgery - getting inside the head of a wounded person and magically easing their pain so that they can recover. He is also an excellent hypno-therapist.
Gabriel looks quite young, only in his mid-twenties, despite his abilities. He has white-blond hair and grey eyes. He is another fairly easy-going teacher, although he is very strict on the ethics of mental magic and altering the minds of mages and non-mages alike.
Bernice was born in the Commonwealth Shadow of Kintail. She came to Sable City to study, after having been discovered by one of the groups which goes out from Sable to look for the Talented. While she was originally planning on specialising in natural environmental magics, she actually discovered that she had more of a flair for illusions, and ended up studying that field more extensively. After graduation, she returned home for a while, but ended up missing the life of Sable City and returned to the College. She is quite a good teacher, although at times she can be impatient with her students.
Bernice is a fairly small woman who looks to be in her early-thirties. She has black hair, brown eyes, and an interesting sense of humour which sometimes surfaces in her lessons.
Marina is quite a decent general illusion mage, however she discovered at college that she enjoyed working with the student theatre company run by the Mage School combined with Sable University, and ended up specialising specifically into the theatrical based side of the field. After graduating, she toured the Commonwealth with a company for a few years, improving her hands on experience. She has only just come back to teach at the Mage College at the point when the first octuplets go up to study.
Marina is tall and slim, with long blond hair and blue eyes. She looks to be about thirty. She has worked hard to make her lessons more "hands on" and less theoretical, having discovered that in this particular field there is no substitute for experience. Her classes are normally small, given the specificness of the field, but her students are very enthusiastic.
Gelling is the foremost pioneer of developing the disciplines of audio and video broadcasting. He has also done groundbreaking work in the area of holographic engineering. He joined the faculty of SMC about ten years ago, as his ideas for mass-entertainment were becoming more and more accepted, and the number of students interested in the field grew.
He looks to be in his late-twenties, with slate-grey eyes and sports long black hair tied back in a ponytail. He is lightly built - definitely more towards geek than superstar - and usually turns up to teach wearing jeans and t-shirts, much to the despair of the rest of the staff.
Diane is the granddaughter of Aldous Collins - an old WW2 colleague of Robert and Gray. His specialism was long distance observation and extraction, and Diane has inherited this talent in some measure. Her expertise is in investigative magic in general, in which she is probably second only to the King in Sable City, although she has sub-specialised in long-distance workings - both teleporting and gating - and observations, in which she took her doctorate. As of January SY154, however, her original responsibilities have been narrowed to long-distance transport and communications, and she has been tasked with building up the department dealing with large-scale defensive magics, Sable's general weakness in that area having been rudely demonstrated by the November 153 attack on Riversend. She has an informal teaching manner, but one which works very well, and she is very popular with her students.
She looks to be in her late-thirties, and is quite lightly built. She has long, black hair, untouched by grey, and dark brown eyes.
Rather to the surprise of the other Mage College professors when he first proposed it, and more so to the students when they first start the course, the King teaches classes one afternoon a week for those students working for a Masters in investigative magic, and who wish to study the forensic magic specialisation. He is generally credited as being the foremost forensic mage in Sable and the Commonwealth, and seems to actively enjoy sharing his knowledge with new generations of mages.
Henry Bartholomew has been on the staff of Sable Mage College for some time, but has only recently been given a tenured professorship. He is an investigative mage with a specialism in forensic magic, as well as being a highly-qualified healer. Until he was awarded his tenure, he worked closely with Richard Sternbeck and Gabriel Brady in the teaching of healing magic, and also took the majority of the forensic magic classes which the King did not. He has recently taken over as Head of the Faculty of Investigative Magic, now that Diane de Courtney has been moved over to Large-scale Defensive.
Henry looks to be in his mid to late forties.
Sara was born on Rive, coming to Sable Mage College as a student in its early days. She graduated high in her class, and showed a flair for how to make the everyday magics work better and more smoothly. She stayed on to further study these fundamental magics, and after a few years working in the research areas of the Mage College became the foremost expert, outstripping many of the then teachers. She moved from research to teaching, and eventually worked her way up to being Joint Head of the Faculty of Mechanical and Technological Magics. She is very studious, and sometimes gets rather highbrow in her explanations to her students.
She looks to be in her early-forties, and is quite tall and slim, and some would say good looking. She has long, light brown hair and hazel eyes.
Tareq is an ex-Terra Magica specialist, who knew Robert from King's Cambridge. Within the overall category of mechanical and technological magic, his specialism is towards the development of types of magical technology, while Sara's researches drift more towards the fuel and power generation. Tareq is the other Joint Head of the Faculty, and also takes a number of the advanced classes. He is an interesting teacher, and can inspire his students very effectively.
Tareq is in his late-fifties, with dark hair and eyes and an olive complexion.
Charles is the Head of the Faculty of Natural Magics. He is a native of Terra Magica's Paris, of an old French noble line, who met Robert through the Magical Oversight Council. Later, Robert introduced him to his future wife at a reception in the Palace, and asked them both if they would accompany him to Sable, where he made sure they were well established. Charles's specialism is environmental natural magics: controlling wind, weather, rains, etc. - at least as far as they can be controlled, which is, at least, to a useful degree and very important in a country where farming is a major industry, like France. He knows his subject well, and teaches with enthusiasm.
Charles has a vaguely aristocratic bearing. He is tall and dark, quite well built, and has dark hair and eyes.
Roger is a resident of Sable City, who was one of the first graduating class at Sable Mage College. He is a specialist in the plant-related side of natural magics, although he does also have a decent amount of knowledge of the animal side of the field. After graduating, he studied the arcane sides of both botany and genetics for a few years, before applying his combined knowledge in and around the Commonwealth, although he comes back to teach at the College many years ago. He has a highly academic approach to his subject, and while an expert in the field, he can be rather dry when teaching.
Roger looks to be in his early-forties, with his appearance being made slightly older because he is balding somewhat. His hair was black, but is now tending to grey, and he has grey eyes.
Heidi was a Reich mage, who rather fell out with her employers over some of the uses to which they wanted to apply her work - and indeed their preferred methods of scientific study. Rather in haste, she made her way to Sable City, and came to the notice of Charles de Courtney after she started consulting in her field - animal magics - from an office in the City. Now she splits her time between teaching and consulting. She has a relatively formal manner with her students, but is a natural teacher and can get them to learn very well.
Heidi is tall for a woman, standing 5'10". She has long blond hair, blue eyes, and looks to be in her early-thirties.
Nathan is the younger brother of Michael Gaunt, head of one of the major trading families, which hails originally from the Commonwealth Shadow of Berrin. Nathan and his son Joseph exhibit the Talent, although the senior branch of the family does not. Nathan showed a flair for natural magics, specifically in the rare field of geological magics. Initially, the King specifically brought teachers in his subject from Terra Magica, as there was no teacher of geological magic at the Sable College at the time. After graduating, he started putting his skills to profitable use, both for his family, which specialises in the import and export of basic materials such as ore and stone, and as a consultant. However, he agreed to teach two afternoons a week at the Mage College, to fill the void in his subject once the Terra Magica teachers had returned home.
Nathan looks to be in his early forties. He is a large man, slightly running to overweight. He has dark brown hair and hazel eyes.
Jennifer is both an expert at structural magics, and a highly competent architect, splitting her time between teaching three days a week, and taking on private commissions at other times. She came to Sable in the early years of the King's reign, and settled in very well. Her theoretical knowledge of her subject is excellent, and her reputation for the practical side of her work is equally good. She is a very thorough teacher, covering her subject fully and generally having it sink in with her students.
Martin is the son of the Duke of Richmond, and did a stint in the Terra Magica Royal Engineers, under his father. When his father left Terra Magica on business for King Robert, Martin stayed behind. However, the King later asked him if he was interested in coming to Sable, and he agreed. Blake did a stint in the Royal Engineers in the Sable army, but later retired from active service and joined the staff at the Mage College. He also teaches some classes for the SCMM. His specialisms are structural magics - specifically their military uses - and combat magics, at least as far as the Engineers specialities go. He is an enthusiastic teacher, although he sometimes gets disappointed if his students don't seem to share his love of his subject.
Martin looks to be in his early-thirties and bears something of a resemblance to his father. He has brown hair, still worn quite short, blue eyes, and a medium build.
Mikhail is the second son of Albrecht Kreuger, head of one of the noble houses. He is the first of his family to exhibit the Talent, and did so much to everyone's surprise by teleporting himself down to the beach of the King's Isle when trying to avoid being hit by a speeding carriage when he was about twelve. He has an affinity for mental magic and transport and communications, although he chose to specialise more strongly in the latter. He has a young attitude towards teaching, working very informally, but still able to get his students to both behave, and learn.
Mikhail is one of the younger teachers at the Mage College, and has never really left - staying on to do first a Masters, then improving that to a Doctorate, and finally joining the staff as the major full time transport and communications specialist. He has ash blond hair and blue eyes, and is very good looking.
Janna is a part time member of staff at the Sable College, spending the rest of the time helping her husband with his merchant endeavours. She is strong in the practical aspects of transport and communications magic, especially as it can be applied to making trade easier and more efficient: for example with transportation logistics, deal striking and communications. She is also the Sable expert on telekinetic magics, again developed with an eye to trade-based uses, such as loading and unloading ships, etc.
She looks to be in her late-thirties, with dark blond hair and grey eyes, although she suffered disappointment when her daughter, Charlotte, was one of the three students sent down with Sarra de Lacy.
On Terra Magica, the advent of conjuration is slowly bringing about a kind of industrial revolution. This is also in place in Sable. The conjurers work very closely with the mechanical mages, finding newer and better ways of building technologies. David is one of the foremost conjurers from Terra Magica, and did teach for a while at King's Cambridge. Robert asked him to join him in Sable, and he agreed as it sounded like a new challenge.
David is in his late-thirties, and fairly thin. He has balding black hair, and blue eyes which are normally hidden behind thickish glasses. He is a fairly techie type, very interested in what he does. Sometimes he is better at getting this across than at other times, but he does have a staff of teachers under him who are happy to help.

A former resident of Terra Magica, he knew Robert from the Testing Board, and agreed to come to Sable with his family when Robert asked. He is quite an efficient teacher, with a fairly informal style which normally gets his point across pretty well. However, at times he has problems relating to the most gifted of his students.
He is a fairly young man, apparently only in his mid-thirties, with blond hair and hazel eyes.
Simon comes from Sable, although he has visited Terra Magica with Robert on occasion. His style is a lot more formal than Morrison's, and he will take a lot less crap from his students. He is known as a stickler for the rules. However, he does have the knack of being able to work with the exceptional pupils and get them to achieve more than they perhaps want to.
He is in his mid-forties, with black hair, still unmarked by grey, and dark brown eyes.
Declan was born in Ireland on Terra Magica, although he opted to go to Mage College at King's Cambridge, rather than in Dublin. He first came to Robert's attention as a natural investigative mage, although he also has experience in a wide range of other fields. His teaching style is slightly formal, although he is a good enough teacher that he can adjust his style to fit his current intake of pupils.
He is in his early fifties, with mousy brown hair, flecked with grey, and dark blue eyes. There is still a gentle Irish twang to his voice.
Not highly specialised in any field, but very competent at lower levels in all areas. Peter is a native of the Commonwealth Shadow of Deansway. He is a pleasant, friendly type who is quite happy to let his students have the odd funny ten minutes, as afterwards, for the rest of the lesson, they are more relaxed and learn better.
Peter looks to be in his mid-thirties. He has curly black hair, and blue eyes, and is quite lightly built. He is young and friendly, and much beloved by his students.
Again, well versed in a variety of areas. Carolyn also has an active interest in history, and is involved in politics within Sable City. She is enthusiastic, and is normally a very good teacher, although occasionally, if she gets onto one of her pet subjects, she can get rather away from the actual lesson in hand.
Carolyn looks to be in her early-forties, and has dyed-blond hair and blue eyes. She gets on okay with her students, although she isn't the most popular tutor in the College.
Michael has some specialism in mechanical/technological magics, but is mainly more general in his abilities. He came to Sable from outside the Commonwealth, having apparently met the King on one of his visits beyond the trading Shadows. Somewhat later he discovered that he was Talented.
A severe man with brown, thinning hair and dark eyes. He takes no nonsense from his students, and can be difficult to relate to at times, until you get to know him.
Arthur was born and brought up in Sable. He was discovered to be both Talented and an empathic sensitive at a young age, and was encouraged to go to SMC to study. However, while he was there he also realised he had a calling to the priesthood, and after graduating with his Bachelor's degree he trained within the Church of Sable. After he was ordained, he spent several years in the Commonwealth in various positions, before returning to Sable to complete his Masters degree. He was then appointed to the staff of Archbishop Dessain, where he served for about five years. He was appointed chaplain to Sable Mage College in SY140.
He stands about 5'8", and has dark hair and hazel eyes. He is a warm character, and is always willing to make time to either help someone in need or engage in lively discussion.
