The Reich Mission in Sable

The Reich Mission

Reich Journalists in Sable

Slightly to the surprise of the general population of Sable, there is a Reich Consulate within Sable City, which handles the interests of those Reich Citizens who have a legitimate reason to be in the city - for example, commerce, education, journalism, etc - and tries to promote the more palatable sides of the Reich within Sable. There have been one or two changes of personnel in the last few months. Dietrich Mahler ceased to be Reich Deputy Consul in December SY151 - indeed, a warrant for his arrest for treason would appear to have been issued in Berlin at around that time. Wolfgang Konstanz, the long-serving and well-respected Reich Consul, has been recalled to Berlin: this occurred in August SY152, but is being portrayed as a standard rotation, Konstanz having come to the end of his ten-year tenure in Sable.

Gottleib Karsten, Reich Consul to Sable

Gottleib Karsten is the younger brother of  Gunther Karsten, Graf von Krakau. He comes from a hoher Adel family with a long history of civil service, particularly in the diplomatic arena, although he did undertake military State Service with the Wehrmacht in his youth.

Karsten has served in a number of positions in a variety of Reich Embassies across the worlds, including a number of non-Commonwealth Shadows in the Commonwealth Veils, notably Garioch and Jensen. He rose to the position as Ambassador to Nordenham in the Niedersachsen Group of the Außenhandel der Reichsverband. Most recently, he was involved in the integration of the new Neubrandenberg Group, working closely with Reichsprotektor Wolfgang Xaver, and it is believed to be on the back of the success of that integration that he was put forward as the new Reich Consul to Sable, despite the fact that he has had no direct contact with Sable in the past.

Karsten arrived in Sable City after the Imperial Wedding of Crown Prince Johan and Princess Juliana in September SY152 and presented his credentials to King Robert on October 1st. His politics are somewhat right of centre within the Reich, although he has not opposed the Treaty between the Reich and Sable. In fact, since his arrival, he has proved to be a reasonably straightforward man to work with, letting professionalism, rather than personal politics, mark his Consulship. That his niece, Heinrike, is the new head of the RFSS's Honour Guard has not escaped notice, however.

Adalheid Ansgar, Reich Deputy Consul

Adalheid Ansgar's appointment as Reich Deputy Consul, in February SY152, caught a lot of people by surprise. Until that time, she had been serving as Kaiser Wilhelm's Chief of Staff, having worked up to that position in a long and illustrious career as a diplomat. Therefore, her posting to Sable is seen by many as a demotion, although exactly what she is being punished for is far from certain. The fact that her appointment was championed by the Reichsführer-SS also raised a few eyebrows, as Imperial and SS staffing matters are usually kept separate. Whatever the reasons for her appointment, however, since she arrived and presented her credentials, she has quickly settled in her post, and has been earning the respect of Sable government and diplomatic circles, being groomed by Wolfgang Konstanz to continue the relationships he set up in his time in Sable City.

Walter Pohl, Commercial Attaché

A former member of the Auslands-Wehrmacht, Pohl retired from military service in the early-120s and went into business - he was the younger son of a trading family based in the Reich capital, and eventually returned to his roots. He has also had a few dealings with the Commonwealth Shadows and is relatively well respected for a Reich agent, although as he's been in Sable for nearly ten years, it is likely that he will soon be recalled to Berlin. Pohl looks to be in his early-forties, with sandy-blond hair and grey eyes. He keeps himself reasonably fit - or at least, as fit as he can be and sit behind a desk much of the time. He is generally good natured and tries to be pleasant to those he is dealing with.

Standartenführer Martin Wasser, Military Attaché

A serving officer in the Reich SS, Wasser is one of the least liked and least trusted members of the Reich delegation, coming as he does with a full set of the beliefs and prejudices which typify the more extreme elements of the Reich, largely due to his upbringing as one of the Lebensborn. His main duties relate to the security of the mission itself (rather than the people within it). He has been in Sable for about six years. Wasser looks to be in his mid-thirties, with short black hair and dark eyes. It appears that he and Wolfgang Metz, the Sable Secretary of Defence, have some unpleasant past history. However, for the most part they stay out of each other's way while in Sable City.

Karl Bouhler, Cultural Attaché

Former boyfriend of Princess Elaine, now back in Sable after being recalled to Berlin following an embarrassing incident which he has now publicly stated that he regrets. His family remains supporters of Kaiser Wilhelm, hence the powers that be were persuaded to overlook his faux pas on his previous visit. Learning that Elaine now has a son and daughter has been something of a shock to him. He is still willing to listen to both sides of an argument, but is a lot more circumspect about how he does this than he used to be. Bouhler appears to be quite young, in his late-twenties.

Jeremias Gerhold, Consulate Counsellor

Gerhold is responsible for all legal matters to do with the Reich Consulate, its accredited representatives and its dealings with the Kingdom of Sable and its government. He is also available as a consultant to any Reich Citizen requiring legal assistance while in Sable, and is likely to be called in by the Sable police if any visitor from the Reich has been arrested (for anything from being drunk and disorderly to treason). He has been in his current position for about nine years, during which time he has acquired an impressive knowledge of the Sable legal system, as well as that of the Reich, although he, too, is coming to the end of his tenure in Sable.

Lina Arendt, Head of Consulate Public and Press Relations

Lina joined the Consulate about seven years ago, having previously served in Reich missions in Shadows within the Commonwealth Veils but not, as yet, members of the Commonwealth. It is her job to make sure the Reich Consulate doesn't suffer from too much adverse publicity, and indeed promotes some of the Consulate-sponsored events to try to show her country in a positive light. She appears to be in her late-thirties, and has bobbed blond hair and blue eyes. She is calm, professional and reasonably well liked by the Sable Press Corps, with whom she has the most dealings. She also makes a point of not discussing her own politics in public.

Major Josef Graber, Head of the Reich Diplomatic Protection Squad in Sable

Graber has the unenviable responsibility of maintaining the safety of members of the small Reich consular staff within Sable City. He is a member of the Heimat-Wehrmacht, and has held his current position for approximately eight years. As well as being highly competent at his military duties, he has cultivated a comparatively easy-going attitude as far as dealing with the Sable locals is concerned, and has a decent track record of breaking up trouble before it really gets nasty. He still appears quite young - in his mid-twenties - with blond hair that is cut slightly long for a member of the military, and green eyes, and he was recently promoted for good service.

As well as the leading representatives mentioned here, the Reich Embassy in Sable City does have a supporting staff, with usual staff posting rotations occurring on January 1st each year.

Accredited Reich Journalists in Sable City

Erich Stuke, Accredited Journalist for Die Welt

Erich Stuke replaced the previous accredited representative for Die Welt, Heinrich Straße, who returned to Berlin in August SY152, but more recently has not been apparent in either the Reich, Sable, or their respective trade groups. Stuke is the son of a Colonel in the Heimat-Heer, who opted to do his State Service in the military. After his State Service, he spent five years in the regular forces, coming out with a captain's commission, before going to university to study German, English and journalism. He interned for a while with the RDP, before getting his first journalistic position with Die Welt in the city of Danzig. He made his name be sending home eye-witness accounts of the horrendous accident which destroyed the port facilities of that city, from which time Die Welt has given him the opportunity to pick his postings.

He has spent the last few years in the Bayern group of Der Außenhandel der Reichsverband, and also covered the formation of the Neubrandenburg Group, which was recently added to the Außenhandel bloc. He first requested posting to Sable about three years ago. However, at the time Sable was not looking to end its accreditation of Straße, and therefore declined his request. With Straße's ongoing sabbatical, and now that matters in Neubrandenburg  appear settled, they have accredited Stuke to Sable City in his colleague's place.

Stuke is still settling into his new responsibilities, but his reports thus far have met the approval of the Sable authorities - at least as far as dispatches from a Reich journalist ever will.

Amadeus Heider, Accredited Journalist for Das Tag

Heider is a former soldier in the Auslands-Heer. He is the other Reich journalist allowed to operate within Sable City, and is the one who is less tolerated by the Sable authorities. In fact, there have been times when he has been on the point of being asked to leave Sable, only to be prevented from having to do so by intervention at high levels. In contrast to Straße he is outspoken and firm in his belief of the Reich system, and his articles have a far more pro-Reich anti-Sable slant to them.

Heider appears to be in his early-fifties. He has balding, grey hair that was formerly blond, and startling blue eyes. He is quite a large man, but has slightly let himself run to seed. However, he is also always well dressed, even if his actions can be rather more unprofessional than his counterpart for Die Welt.
